Bought for use as a reference -- one must assume that it is not possible to completely understand the meaning of these writings unless you are fluent in Arabic and have years of exposure to the social structures involved. So it is necessary to accept the authenticity of the translator's English.

This bilingual edition of the Qur'an is just what I was hoping it would be,well-translated and a ready reference when needed in my work on comparative religions and sacred texts..

The translation is quite accurate and easy to read- not the usual old English style of translation that gets confusing and makes you feel lost. It doesn't have many footnotes, so if you are looking for a more detailed translation that gives a background to why the verses were revealed, then this isn't the translation for you.

One of my greatest passions is comparative religion. I've been looking for a translation of the Quran for a long time. The only version I ever owned was a 1956 paperback version: "The Meaning of the Glorious Koran," by Marmaduke Pickthall. I skipped around in it but could never quite get ingrossed in it. One day I was at a bookstore and found this translation and interpretation by Majid Fkahry. It was so clear and easy to read that I bought it immediately.It's a large book in actual size, but it averages only about 250 words per page. And the Quran is a very short book. So don't be misled by the number of pages. It's a fairly quick read. The reason there are so few words on such large pages is because each page is split down the middle, with English text on one side and the original Arabic on the other. I'll probably never have any use for the Arabic text, but the format feels very open because there's such a small portion of English text on each page. In other words, because the text isn't very dense, reading it doesn't seem to be a chore.Fakhry includes a brief and very helpful four page introduction before the text. And throughout the book he includes footnotes to help Westerners understand context they might not otherwise grasp. But the footnotes are mercifully brief and aid rather than interrupt the flow of reading. Clarity and ease of reading are the two best words to describe it. Why did I decide to read the Quran in the first place? Simple. Often the problems caused by religious followers comes from *interpretations* of scripture rather than the scripture itself. I just thought it was high time for me to look at the Quran with my own eyes and not rely on someone else's interpretation of it.Of course, translations of dead languages become interpretations whether they intend to or not. And the author of this version doesn't deny that it's an interpretation. The author also enlisted the aid of translator Mahmud Zayid. Between them they attempted to correct errors of the earlier and more well-known versions, including Pickthall's version. They also consulted the most authoritative commentaries and they tried their best to render the words into clear and readable English. I think they succeeded on that front.It's probably not possible to render a perfect translation of the Quran. Ancient Arabic is a highly idiosyncratic language. Not even modern day Arabs speak the Arabic of Muhammad's day. Some scholars of Islam think that some of the meanings of the Quran have been distorted because of this. They could be right. But this version is pretty much the mainstream interpretation. In other words, even the various disagreeing sects of Islam would probably mostly agree on this interpretation, because despite their deep divisions there are many things they agree on.The first Surah (chapter) is relatively short: only 65 words long. In the second Surah I found words that are eerily similar to words Jesus spoke----a message that some Muslims fail to heed, just as some Christians fail to heed Jesus' similar message. From Surah 2:"There are some who say 'We believe in Allah and the Last Day;' but they are not real believers. They seek to deceive Allah and the believers, but they deceive none others but themselves, though they are not aware of that . . . A painful punishment awaits them because of their lying. And when they are told 'Do not sow mischief in the land' they say: 'We are only doing good.' It is they who make mischief, but they are unaware of that."The words go on to say that such people are "fools" and "devils" and describes them as "intransigent." Intransigence is defined by Merriam-Webster as "characterized by refusal to compromise or abandon an extreme position or attitude." Terrorists seem not to have read that Surah. Notice the similarity of that Surah with Jesus' words:"Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. Many will say to me on that last day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?' Then I will tell them plainly, 'I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!' (Matthew 7:20-23)Jesus also said: "By their fruit ye shall know them." (Matthew 7:16)The similarity between both messages is striking. What's more striking is that the message is delivered so early in the Quran: on the first page, in fact. Both messages say that there are people who consider themselves to be devout and doing God's work but who are deceiving themselves and committing evils instead.I may never completely settle the issue in my own mind of the exact nature of Muhammad as a religious figure. But there is undeniable wisdom within the pages of the Quran. Only a fool could miss it. It seems primarily a message of peace, mercy, compassion, and understanding. There are other parts that don't give me as much comfort, though, because they could be construed as justifying various social codes that I consider too extreme. But there are other passages that moderate those kinds of phrases by supplying a more compassionate perspective. For example, Westerners are familiar with the fact that criminals are punished harshly in Islamic cultures. But in the Quran is says that criminals who show honest remorse should be shown mercy. It's also important to remember that the Quran was written within a cultural context. And the pre-Islamic social rules of Arabs tended to be even more harsh than the post-Islamic social rules of Arabs. So it seems more likely that Muhammad was trying to moderate extreme cultural norms rather than exacerbate or justify them.My uneducated guess, though, is that the Quran may have been altered or misinterpreted somewhere along the line, changing it into something it was never intended to be. Of course, Islamic scholars deny this. And even if if there was some conspiracy to alter the words of the Quran, it would have had to have been very close to the time of Muhammad's death, because there's not much historical evidence of it, if any. But meaning and interpretation could have been altered either intentionally or unintentionally.Ultimately I see no resemblance between the author of these scriptures and modern day terrorists. If they truly believe in God's Day of Judgement, then a close reading of the Quran should fill them with fear and dread because of their actions, not great expectations. That's my opinion.Considering the impact that Islamists have had on Western society in the 20th and 21st centuries, I think Westerners owe it to themselves to read the Quran and learn some the history of Muhammad and Islam. The good parts were very good and have been glossed over. The Quran is relatively short----not nearly the length of even the New Testament. And this translation and interpretation makes it an easy read.

Lo leí a los 20 años y me gustó. Ahora, despues de 35 años, casada con un Mexicano, entendí mucho más. Porque en la familia de mi esposo hay fantasmas, tesoro enterrado, santos, revolucionarios y todos los detailles sabrosos que incluye Gabriel Garcia Marquez. Mi profesor decía que lo que Don Quixote de la Mancha es para la cultura española, 100 años es para la cultura latina. Para mi, 100 años tiene la mejor terminación de cualquier libro que he leido. Que lo disfruten!

If there were more stars, I would give this book more. Garcia Marquez's writing is just exquisite -- just study the opening paragraphs of this book.He captures the atmosphere of this Caribbean part of Colombia masterfully using his magic realism style. It did help that I have a wonderful Spanish teacher who explained the connections and allusions to me. A visit to the region only intensified my love for this novel. I have a hard time though deciding whether I like Cien Años better or Love in the Times of Cholera. they are my two favorite books and I have read both several times in Spanish and English. It's even better in Spanish.

Fue un poco dificil al principio de seguir los personajes con el mismo nombre pero sobre todo es muy interesante como la novela se desarrolla, me gusta la creatividad y estilo de Garcia Marquez y es chistoso, comedia latina. Aun no acabo de leer toda la novela pero quiero commentar que la recomiendo mucho. Me recuerdo de todos mis viajes a sudamerica mientras leo la historia de cien anos de soledad. El libro me lleva ahi y Garcia Marquez pinta una imagen muy clara de la cultura de america latina. Es de veras el Don Quijote de Sudamerica! :D

I was wondering how would have been to read this book in the original language. It has been tough but indeed worth it to read.Marquez crate a chain of events that make the reader willing to read a little more so that you don't feel the pages flow under your fingers but it makes you feel the story like we were watching a movie printed on pages.Even without knowing all of the immense numbers of adjectives (Spanish is not my first language) which enrich every single pages, Marquez style of writing makes you understand anyway the profound essence of his sentences.The author dedicate profound description even to the characters that don't play a main role, making them part of the whole picture, without whom it would not look so great.Pages are pregnant of symbolisms and hidden meanings. Colors, characters, animals, objects are there for a reason, not just as embellishment.This is a remarkable master piece, as few in the modern literature. Make your self a favor and read it.

PLEASE NOTE I'M REVIEWING THE KINDLE FORMAT OF THE BOOK, NOT THE BOOK ITSELF.I'm currently at 68% through the book, and though I love the story, the Kindle format falls really short. The main issue is that the index has just the following entries:Cubierta (Cover)Cien años de soledad (the book's contents)Biografía (Biography)Créditos (Credits)This means that the whole book itself is one single entry, plus there's no title to indicate the start of chapter, just a big blank space between chapters. This is really annoying, specially if you forward the book by mistake, unless you remember the location where you were, you basically have to turn pages until you get there. Definitely a lot of room for improvement in this area.--------------------------------POR FAVOR NOTE QUE MI CRÍTICA ES SOBRE EL FORMATO KINDLE DEL LIBRO, NO EL LIBRO EN SÍ.Actualmente estoy en el 68% del libro, y aunque me encanta la historia, el formato Kindle de verdad se queda corto. Overall it's a good book, Mr Moon clearly knows the material and has a more sophisticated pedagogical style as these types of writers go. However, the book has typo after typo after typo. To the extent that it's rather annoying and even confuses the concepts he is attempting to convey at points. I don't know if Packt has never heard of copy editing or just don't have any employees who know how to do it. Out of the 100 or so technical books I've read in my life this quite easily is the one with the most grammatical errors. Hopefully they can get their act together reduce this sort of thing going forward. I wouldn't let this stop you from buying the book but it will be a significant annoyance as you work through it.

I have tried making the Pebble Beach Fruits....funny name behind a wheat free fruit newton's made with coarsely chopped fruits spiced with either cinnamon, anise or if you want reconstituted with brandy or cognac. But anyway, tried few recipes...and they were fabulous. The family were surprised, then they loved it. This will be 1 baking book you should on your bakery collection. Most of them are sweet cookies,but there are several savory biscuits, others are made of herbs & spices that you don't normally include as a dessert, and others have wheat free versions (her blend is mostly brown rice flour and oats+ xanthan gum to keep it together for structure). The recipes are divided how each are described under textures, ingredients used but don't sacrifice flavors. This book is great for a baker who want to add on their baking arsenal, amateur and pro alike. Different flavors and textures that are great everyday or maybe doing a cookie swap or a baking sale. I am sure will surely cherish these recipes from Alice Medrich.

What is in it for me to follow a new recipe, if I can't see how it is suppose to turn out? Like with a picture? Can you not grab a camera and take a picture?!!! We have paid enough for the book to have pictures. Based on that odd decision, I returned the book. How odd? I mean have you not heard people eat with their eyes? What were you thinking? How can this book have the reviews that it does? That is suspicious. The pictures that I did see, looked not worth the trouble. I was disappointed in other words with the book. If I had to have something nice to say, I could say that the quality of the book as far as the pages and structure, seemed really good. But if you have any type of cook book, yes I am sorry, You need to submit pictures. I hope this review damages sales. Because thats what you deserve for selling a book without enough pictures.

I have made 80% of the cookies in this book, without a problem. I have given this book to friends that struggle with making cookies and they are now very proud of the cookies they make. I notice some people that are great bakers and semi profession bakers have difficulty with this book. Her techniques are spelled out in the user's guide. Creaming butter and sugar, at first glance seems like a simple process however there are many different levels and different ways to accomplish this technique. David Leibovitz, Martha Stewart, Julia Child's techniques are similar but slightly different as are most chefs. If you want to get the most out of this book do not ignore the user's guide. The instructions are clear and concise.

The book starts off with an explanation of terms used in the recipes. Then, it moves into a FAQ section covering a variety of topics, such as pan preparation, cookie, storage, and choosing/preparing the ingredients.The sections in the book are divided by the topics in the title (crispy, crunchy, chunky, chewy, gooey, flaky, and melt-in-your-mouth). At the end, there are a couple of other informative sections. There is a component section with various things like fillings, frostings, cookie icings, and crusts. There are also ingredient and equipment explanatory sections.Some of the dry ingredients in the recipes, such as flour, sugar, and nuts, are given in both volume and weight measurements. Many of the recipes have an "upgrade" (variation) section following the recipe. There are also mini tutorials throughout the book. For example, there are a couple pages devoted to tuiles. The mini tutorial talks about tuile basics, how to make and use a stencil for tuiles, more efficient tuile baking, and how to make ice cream cones from tuile batter.There are a variety of recipes in this book. There are a few traditional stand-bys like chocolate chip cookies and snickerdoodles. There are also more unusual recipes, such as honey hemp bars, pebbly-beach fruit squares, breakfast biscotti, spicy carrot masala macaroons, and alfajores. Also, macarons are becoming popular, and there is a recipe, with variations, for French macarons.One note for people looking for recipes for individuals with food sensitivities or special diets - there is a guide at the back of the book the lists recipes for wheat-free cookies, dairy-free cookies, cookies made with whole grains, and less fat and 2 (Weight Watchers) point treats. Each of the cookies in the point section lists how many cookies you can have for the points. For example, melting chocolate meringues - 2 cookies for 2 points. Other listings include doughs that freeze well, cookies that will keep for at least two weeks, and quick and easy recipes. For some reason, the listings don't have page numbers with the names of the cookies, but the index immediately follows the listings.There aren't very many pictures in the book - only about 2 to 4 recipes in a chapter are pictured. I find that a little disappointing because I love to see what I'm about to make.

This volume collects Ultimate Spider-Man issues 8-13. In this volume we finally see Spider-Man clash with the criminal element of New York City properly. Spider-Man encounters Electro, the Enforcers and the Kingpin while still trying to juggle his life as a high schooler. Spider-Man also gets placed in a very compromising situation that could jeopardize his life as a crime fighting vigilante. Bendis handles this very well and very realistically, especially considering the subject matter and when you think about a city as vast and as populated as New York. This issue also contains more touching and heart felt moments between Peter and Aunt May. Peter also begins to pursue his relationship with Mary Jane more in this story arc, although it is very tumultuous as one would expect from a high school romance. This however leads to a very satisfying moment between Peter and Mary Jane in the final issue which is dedicated solely to the two of them. I did enjoy how Bendis ties in some of the things that Peter is learning in school to his crime fighting antics, his history class plays a key role in defeating the Kingpin in this story arc. But I really liked that application as it seems to be something that a smart young crime fighter would do. I also enjoyed the comedy spread throughout this book, it seems that Bendis is settling in more to his run on Spider-Man at this point. I didn’t really like the depiction of Electro in this story arc. He felt largely unnecessary, and he wasn’t as compelling as his mainstream 616 counterpart. Mark Bagley and Art Thibert are still doing well with the artwork, in fact it’s hard to think of Ultimate Spider-Man without this iconic look and feel to the artwork. Overall, this is a solid continuation of Bendis’s run.

- Shocker (as he takes out a police car during a chase): "Hey, I got one!! I got one!!"- Spidey (whilst kicking Shocker's mug in): "I got one, too! Awww, but mine's a big tool!"Having just re-read these two trades back to back, I thought I'd try for a two-fer, double dipping on both ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN Vol. 19: DEATH OF A GOBLIN and Vol. 20: ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN & HIS AMAZING FRIENDS. Firstly, I harbor mad friggin' love for this series. With his Ultimate Spidey stories, Brian Michael Bendis has managed to reinvent and reinvigorate the Spider-Man mythos, and shiny-domed dude has even managed to stick with the thing for over 130 issues now. Artist Mark Bagley also gets massive golf claps for his extensive run, and it's no lie that his take on Ultimate Spidey has become THE definitive rendering. Having said that, Stuart Immonen, not exactly a scrub himself, has been doing righteous things with the artwork. I dig that Immonen keeps Spidey looking like a kid in tights, instead of some over-muscly bloke all of a sudden.ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN Vol. 19: DEATH OF A GOBLIN collects issues #112-117 and features the escape of Norman Osborn, a.k.a. the Green Goblin, from the Triskelion's maximum security compound and the resultant wigging out of Peter and Mary Jane. As Osborn goes about his machinations to take down Nick Fury (who, following the goings-on in the Ultimate Power mini-series, isn't around much anymore), interim S.H.I.E.L.D. director Carol Danvers tries to catch up with all the crazy going down. And, lest you forget that this is a certain teen wall-crawler's book, you best believe the Goblin's not forgotten Peter Parker.What I probably relish best in the Ultimate Universe is the sense of freshness it invokes. Not only do longtime Marvel characters get a do-over, but there seems to be more immediacy to the stuff that happens to them. And, importantly, while still steeped in outrageous fantasy, Ultimate Universe somehow feels closer to reality than the mainstream 616. Whenever an Ultimate character dies, it feels more permanent. All this leading to me saying that DEATH OF A GOBLIN is one of the best story arcs in this series.Bendis is very good with the superhero stuff, starting off with Spidey and the newly costumed Shadowcat early on taking out the Shocker in what feels like a throwaway sequence. The stakes quickly go up with Osborn's prison breakout because, as long time readers know, Osborn knows Spidey's civilian identity and evil dude's even flung Mary Jane off a bridge. With Pete ensuring that Aunt May and Mary Jane skedaddle the eff out of town, his bump of responsibility makes him stay on.Pete's taken on the Kingpin and Venom and sundry wacky clones, but let's face it, the Goblin has always been Spidey's traditional nemesis. Ultimate Goblin is immeasurably more powerful than Spidey, and more intelligent, and I like that Spidey always has to struggle like epic crapcakes just to eke out a win. Here, it's not even Pete who finally takes the Goblin down.Bendis's gift for funny and insightful dialogue is on display again. Ultimate Spidey, I think, is hands down funnier than 616 Spidey. Bendis balances the colossal fighty fights with very well done character moments, with the Midtown High sequences proving to be enthralling bits. Pete and Kitty are paired up with one of those baby doll monitoring assignments (and, as one panel reveals, Kitty still isn't quite over Pete's break-up with her). I'm also getting a kick out of the school dynamics with specifics to Kitty Pryde's identity being public knowledge. On the Triskelion side, Spidey and Carol Danvers trade in some hilarious banter, the funny mostly coming from Pete's end. Things climax tragically (all you have to do is peek at the title of this trade) and there's a coda which takes place in Pete's classroom, in a moment tinged with poignancy. A great story arc.ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN Vol. 20: SPIDER-MAN & HIS AMAZING FRIENDS collects issues #118-122 as, in the wake of the traumatic events in DEATH OF A GOBLIN, Bendis takes it down a notch and focuses on the personal lives of Pete and his circle of pallies. A fun story arc.***SPOILER alert for this next paragraph***Midtown High is still mourning the passing of Harry Osborne. To get out of their funk, Pete and his friends decide to hang out at the beach, accompanied by Johnny Storm (Human Torch) and Bobby Drake (Iceman). Night falls on the beach and the kids are chillin' around a campfire, when, shockingly, dot dot dot...Old fogeys may get that the three-part "Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends" is a fond callback to the awesome 1980s cartoon show of the same title (ah, anyone remember Ms.Lion?). So it makes sense that this arc features Iceman (come to apologize to Kitty), as well as the debut of Ultimate Firestar. And, predictably, the manifestation of a new mutant gets a "Hruh?" not only from the X-Men but from Magneto. Bendis effectively serves up his decompression style of storytelling, as these three issues generate tons of cool dialogue, with Spidey and Iceman trying their best to talk down a frantic and frightened Firestar. Not much of a superhero throwdown in this one, which is okay, as I found the conversations among the cast so much more involving. Also, seriously, Peter just ain't competent with keeping his secret identity secret. Seriously.The last two issues in this trade are kinda one-offs. First, we learn how Pete and Kitty fare with their classroom project. It involves an arduous explanation from Peter (to his teacher, in front of the class) as to why their assigned fake baby doesn't exactly end up unscathed. However, when that farfetched explanation features Omega Red and the epic destruction of the Daily Bugle offices, well, someone's G.P.A. is bound to drop.Issue #122 starts off sunnily enough, as Peter video-records Mary Jane as she tries to conduct Man on the Street interviews but can't even say her name right. Things take a deadly serious turn when the Shocker, "the biggest loser in Loserville," surfaces and surprisingly beats holy heck out of and then kidnaps Spider-Man. Which goes to show, even the most ridiculed supervillain is still someone not to be effed with.As these issues demonstrate, there's more gravitas now to young Peter Parker. Wallcrawling guy has fought monumental battles and experienced wondrous things and has incured hurtful losses, but, thru all this, Brian Michael Bendis has been able to preserve the core of Peter Parker, keeping him on point while sustaining that lighthearted flavor. Nothing probably encapsulates this as much as this following bit:- Firestar: "You're an amazing friend. You ran to help me. I won't forget this."- Spidey: "Well, just remember that with great power there must also come great responsibility."- Firestar: "Now you sound like a tool."Hah! And you got her "amazing friend" reference, right?The Ultimate Universe was built on the success of this title, thanks to Bendis's ability to generate pathos and to put a fresh spin on age-old Spider-Man tropes. Ultimate Peter Parker, terrific in all his teenhood and in the infancy of his superhero career, is nowadays my favorite version of the web-spinner. Mark Bagley has put in serious work, as has Stuart Immonen. With Ultimate titles getting shut down left and right and characters getting killed off everywhere (thanks, ULTIMATUM) and with #133 projected as possibly the last Ultimate Spidey issue (#130 is currently what's on sale), I'm just trying to soak it all in, brother. All the while hoping that this doesn't put a moratorium on this little corner of Marvel. That would suck immensely.

I'd like to preface this review by saying that if you have read Volume 1, then you probably know everything I'm going to say, so I'll just say buy this, it's of the same kind and quality.I've known of Ultimate Spider-man's existence for quite some time, but have only recently gotten around to checking it out. If you don't know it's a contemporary reimagining of everyone's favorite wall-crawler, featuring Peter Parker as a teenager in high school, struggling with hormones, interpersonal encounters with peers (especially girls), and the occasional super villain bent on destroying New York.The contemporary retelling is, in my opinion, sublime. There are many cultural allusions, the dialogue is snappy and fun, and the storytelling is as good as any I've read in comic books (admittedly my experience is far from exhaustive).That said, the thing I love most about Ultimate Spider-man is that despite all the changes and updates, the spirit of what makes the web head such an awesome hero is maintained. You'll see that highlighted plain as day in this volume, especially towards the end of the last issue it contains. I generally don't review books, and I don't think I've ever reviewed a comic, but I felt compelled. This comic is amazing, and at the price it's definitely worth it whether you're a long time Spidey fanatic like myself or you are completely uninitiated to the world of comics. If it's the latter, you'd be hard-pressed to find many more accessible starting points. Give it a shot, it will not disappoint.

Though nothing will ever beat the original Stan Lee run of the first 100 or so issues of the Amazing Spider-Man, this is not a bad re-telling of the story of Peter Parker. There are some elements to the ultimate universe I do not like, but I thought the Ultimate Spider-Man run was pretty creative in making an old story seem new. I recommend.

The is the second installment of the "EMP Survivors Series" and I enjoyed it. I wavered on three stars or four, but went with four for a very simple reason: it left me hoping for a third installment. The series needs one because while it somewhat ties up the loose ends of the main characters, it totally declines to tell the reader much of what is going on with the USA, whoever caused the EMP, etc. This is pretty much left alone except for the recitation of some rumors towards the end. Odd. This would be the perfect theme for a third installment.I had some nits with the plot of this one, but I cannot really go into them here because they would constitute spoilers (and I don't do spoilers.)Anyway, I enjoyed the book. RJB.

I was undecided when i finished book 1, if I'd buy book 2. I'm glad that i did. I enjoyed it more than the first.The character consistency was a lot better and the story flowed better for me personally.I admit, i did laugh out loud that there were narrative from the dog, even over detailed gun descriptions like in the first. But i still liked the book overall.I did go ahead and grab an example of one of the many over descriptive gun portions that i said made my eyes glaze over. I still could have done without these and add nothing to the story but overall, i think the author is a good storyteller."An OBR—the Texas answer to the search for the perfect semi-automatic sniper rifle. I'm assuming this book along with the first book are self published and edited. Having said that, great job! This book was entertaining, fast paced, had very good character development and great plot, along with being well written. Being from the pineywoods of East Texas, I could relate to much of what was in the book. The majority of the characters were well developed and well thought out. I bought both the first and second books together and read each one in a day, very absorbing. I will be looking for book three and would recommend to other readers, especially if you enjoy the EMP genre.

The story of the two lawyers caught up in an EMP apocalypse continues. Pike telegraphs some of his story turns but it didn't stop me from enjoying this second volume. The character arch as the two officers of the court work their way through the evaporation of civil order in East Texas is entirely believable. He does not rush their personal relationship but allows it to develop naturally. I especially like and enjoyed his internal dialog in the brain of the family hound. Author Pike has a good understanding of dogs and their mode of thinking.He moves his story right along. I found myself reading his tale quickly so that I could find out what happened next.In the next book he spins off a new tale with a couple of lesser characters on a new journey. Can't wait.

I thoroughly enjoyed Mr. Pike's first two books in his Unbroken World series. Loved his characters and his underlying theme of "faith, family and firearms! Can't wait to read the third book and look forward to more in this series! Congratulations, Mr. Pike!

This is book 2 of the EMP series and follows Dillon and Holly from Louisiana back to Holly's ranch. Dillon is trying to come to grips with what appears to be the certain loss of his daughter. His struggle is real and Chris captures this well in her writing. There are some unexpected twists in this book that set the stage for book 3 of the series. New characters are introduced and, as with book one, are well developed.

I had rated this before but it disappeared. I’ve really enjoyed this series. The gun info is really interesting, and the story line is different from your typical post-apocalyptic storyline. I have stayed up WAY too late reading when I should be in in bed because I have to work! Amazon please do not remove my post. I bought and paid for my book and my favorable review was not solicited.

I absolutely love this series. The characters are so great, the story is totally engrossing...once you start reading you won't want to stop until it's finished. From first page to last there isn't a dull second. I am so looking forward to more from this series. Thanks Chris Pike for your fabulous work that has kept me greatly entertained.

They also reference their Faith which includes praying throughout this book. I just finished listening to this book (Audible). They were my favorite couple before the book, but I feel more of a connection now more than ever. The love, faith, dedication, family and commitment to one another is beautiful. Keeping God first is the glue that has held them together through the test of times. Their honesty and transparency is absolutely beautiful. This is an in-depth honest and thought provoking book that will help marriages at any stage.
