Based on the reviews, this book seemed like a funny read. But unfortunately I just couldn't get into the book and like it as much as other reviewers had.Negative: I didn't like that Sam was made to feel like he wasn't good enough when he dressed as he did and therefore had to be "made over" in order to fit in. The book gave an impression that anyone who dares to be different, should change everything about them and be like everyone else. Also I didn't root for the main female lead and thought that she was quite shallow. On the positive side, the story was in most part interesting.Overall rating: Slightly above average.

How I adored this book!Initially, I thought it was going to be a love-hate romantic comedy, but after a while it became clear it was only a case of a grumpy, and not very socially skilled leading man: Dr. Samuel Page, the hottest historian you'll ever meet. With his obsession about history Sam reminded me a little of Ross and dinosaurs from Friends. You know, if Ross was tall, blond, blue-eyed, impossibly hot, and owned a cat. Yes, because Sam not only is a Jane-Austen-y hero with all his old-fashioned ways and a jot of Mr. Darcy in him, he's also a cat lover. Can someone get any more perfect? By the way, I'm definitely going to call the next cat that I adopt Wellington! But a dishy historian is not all this book had to offer. The swooning, sweet romance was interspersed with Lindsey Kelk's signature humor, which made this read all the more enjoyable.By the end, I was all warmed and cozied up!

I loved this book! It was funny, relatable, and so sweet. The characters grow throughout and the story doesn't feel rushed. The growing bond between the two main characters is realistic; neither falls for each other in a day and it's definitely not love at first sight. There are funny pop culture references and Annie's inside thoughts are hilarious. I'll definitely read this again! :)

Very enjoyable romcom that is a modern day "My Fair Lady" in reverse, with the modern context of social media. Although I personally hate social media, it did not bother me so much in this story. I liked all the characters and all the banter between them.

This was my first book by this author and I adored it, the main characters were likable and funny. The relationship was sweet and realistic. Well written!

I felt like Annie and I were the same throughout many parts of the book. The interactions made me laugh out loud several times. Up to date themes. Great flow. Couldn't put the book down!

Reminiscent of My Fair Lady and She’s All That, but in reverse, one of the biggest draws to One in a Million is the gradual transformation that happens for Sam, as well an Annie. At first, there’s the expectation of witnessing a geek to chic moment, that Sam will morph into a babelicious swan after spending many years of his life as an introverted ugly duckling. Yet, along for the ride are Annie’s own insecurities and baggage, giving her the opportunity to delve deeper into where’s she’s at in her own life and why she’s not as satisfied as she could be in her relationships.I appreciated the dialogue between Annie and Sam, and the rest of the supporting characters. It felt natural, like meeting up with my own friends and having various conversations. Annie was sharp-witted and held her own against Sam, who wouldn’t let anything slide. He reminded me of the grumpy neighbor next door, who ultimately has a heart of gold, while Annie reminded me of the plucky heroine who refuses to give up, even when the world as she knows it begins to crumble around her. For all the fun of Million, there were serious undertones that paralleled it. The struggle to make it in an industry that hasn’t been very welcoming to her, not sure if she’ll be able to make rent at any given moment. Or, the fact that her last romantic relationship ended in disaster, feeding into a lot of her insecurities. The struggles are told in such a way that are felt, and recognized, without creating a heavy blanket of despair. It doesn’t deflect from the original goal of Annie winning a challenge, while Sam has his own ulterior motives on why he’d ever agree to the stipulations of the bet. This was one of those reads where I found it hard to put it down, and stop reading. Mostly because of the chemistry, mostly because I wanted to find out what would happen to Annie and Sam, whether she’d win her bet, whether he’d become the man he eventually discovers he’s wanted to be all along. But the biggest reason would be the old adage, “don’t judge a book by its cover.” The premise of Million is that there is so much more to a person than meets the eye, and while Annie and Sam discover that about each other and about themselves on a personal level, I was along for the discovery, too. A much-deserving five star read, right here.

One in a Million by Lindsay Kelk a five-star read that you will want to catch like a shooting star. I will be honest and admit I didn’t read anything about this book before I knew I needed to have it, I had read some other books by the author a while back and loved them so I knew as soon as I saw the name I had to have it, then I had readers remorse thinking will it be as good as I think it will be, will it live to the hype. I am so glad I did, it was way better than I thought. Annie Higgins, I adore you!!! What an amazing character, she will make you laugh and she will make you groan in frustration, but as you get to know her and learn her story you will love her. The other characters in the story play their parts Charlie, Martin, Miranda and Brian will all help to make the story deeper and Dr Samuel Page PhD (twice don’t you know, that just makes him all the more impressive) will keep you rolling with laughter. This story is one of love and acceptance of those around us as well as ourselves. Its funny and sweet and compelling in a way that you wont be able to put it down until you reach the last page.
