I've spent the last month really using this system, watching the author's videos on YouTube and making my own minor tweaks. I was surprised how quickly I was able to start using the shorthand method. You don't have to implement it all at once. Very quickly you discover that you can shorten about half of the most used words with quickly. I found that I could write in this shorthand faster than I could initially read it back to myself. I was surprised however to discover that reading came fairly quickly too. The system adopts the common shorthand precise of writing what you hear, so it's somewhat context dependent. I initially thought that would be a problem for me, but after going back and reading old notes I find it's rarely an issue at all. I can't site read yet like I do with regular handwriting, but the point is to get the info recorded during a meeting so you at least have it. You can always rewrite it later if necessary. Mr. Cannon has some good videos (which I find relaxing to listen to), but there are some gaps in content on his channel. However, if you search YouTube for "alpha shorthand" you'll find collections of shorthand videos that contain some of Mr. Cannon's videos that aren't on his own channel. BTW, I never found the process of learning his system to be a chore... in fact, it's surprisingly fun. I enjoyed the learning process and am grateful to Mr. Cannon for creating and sharing it.
I am looking forward to re-reading this. At first I was a bit skeptical about the cursive script use (seems like it would be a bit slow) but after trying other systems I want to give this one a fair shot. Also it's awesome that the author makes Youtube videos available. If you are looking to get started I think you could do a lot worse and the author's work is very approachable.
