Personally, I had been searching for a biblical hero who fought and died against slavery in the South, when I discovered Richard Furman who in early life was opposed to slavery, came into possession of slaves, and then took the stand to keep slaves, and from his warped biblical perspective, wrote a book. I guess he never read the passages, “it is for freedom that Christ has set us free†or “do unto others as you would have them do unto youâ€! Or how about the novel idea that the slave was a kidnapped person in need of his sympathy and help!
