I really like this series...I read and listen through it periodically. This specific book is good too...for me it's where the story starts to get exciting again after a couple of books that kind of drag.I don't have a lot of time to sit and read, so I listen to a lot of books on Audible. This series is a treat for me because I have the books on Kindle and Audible, and they synchronize with each other. I can listen a while, then read a while, then listen again without losing my place.With this particular book in the series, I noticed that my Kindle version was not staying synced with my Audible version. So I opted to delete the Audible book and download the narration in the Kindle app. It's the same recording, but I figured since I was accessing both through the Kindle app, they would stay synched up better. For most of the book they have, though the word highlighting has been a few lines off from the narration for a good portion of the book...but that wasn't a huge deal. At least it got me to the right page page.But there are other problems. First, the narration periodically repeats a full sentence. It's a simple editing mistake, and mostly just annoying.Worst of all, a significant portion of the book is missing. Chapter 32, Chapter 33, and most of Chapter 34 are just not there. I hope that Amazon will fix this problem!

I love this series! It is my favorite fantasy series of all time. Sure some of the books are not as exciting as others but life is like that too. I am on my third reread of the series. In this reread, I am adding all of the books and their corresponding Whispersync Audible narration to my Kindle library.Why is there no narration available for this book? The series is 14 books long and 13 of the books have the Whispersync narration available. Come on, Amazon! Is this an oversight? Please add the narration so I can complete my Kindle library of these books.

The first five books pulled me into the world so quickly that I raved to all of my friends that they needed to pick up this series and read it immediately. Then I read the eighth and ninth book. I am dismayed that Jordan seems to care more about discribing minor set pieces than pushing a story forward, with the amount of pages in this book I expected something to happen. This point may be off topic but I'm also upset with audible/amazon that at my time of purchase this audiobook cost nearly 42 dollars, while the rest in the series were a maximum of 14.

This one was pretty great! I really enjoyed it, though it wasn't the best of them. There are some pretty ridiculous scenes and for some reason Mr. Jordan got into this habit of saying "Something really awesome is about to happen" then going to someone else and talking about their buttons and their soup for 20 pages. When you get back to the awesome thing, it's over and he says "Wowie, it was awesome, you should've been there, but those buttons and that soup was more important." Still this was a good one and I slammed through it. Now, book 10 is just outright torture. Did not like book 10 and almost gave it 2 stars; so enjoy this one. I hear books 11 and one are great.

Episode Nine didn't advance any particular story line, and the primary event, while significant to the story in that we may never have to read about the nauseating taint of Saidin again, if we ever hear it described for anyone other than the ever nauseated Rand Al'Vere.The book gives further credence to a personal theory that the "One Power" is actually a mental poison, that somehow makes people cruel, petty, and self centered unless threatened with personal violence or pain. This might be the author's commentary on what people are actually like in any social structure involving more than three people, but I seem to see some corollaries in the story line that people with honest threats to their life or livelihood tend to be friendlier and more honest. The Aes Sedai seem to be a fine collection of sociopathic megalomaniacs with a fashion fetish.I hope the story lines complete/converge/resolve at some point. At this point in the story, I can get a clear mental image of Leafblighter tapping his toe, checking his watch, sending texts to all his evil friends with notes of impatience.

"Winter's Heart" is the ninth book in the "Wheel of Time" series, and I enjoyed this one more than the previous. I thought this installment did a little better job of advancing the story arcs of the major characters -- mainly Rand, Mat, and Elayne; however, Perrin and Faile along with Egwene are largely skipped in this book. I think there are so many major and minor story arcs that Jordan struggled to allocate time to each to meaningfully progress them. There is still plenty of intrigue surrounding Cadsuane's role, and Jordan chose to introduce several new characters that I'm sure will have some play into the bigger picture.I again felt this book lacked a central conflict. Jordan spent the majority of the chapters on Mat's story arc, but he also spent about as much time on Elayne and Rand. I did enjoy the final chapter, which focused on Rand's desire to cleanse the taint from Saidin.The more I read of these books, it feels like the evil side of the story is not being told enough to get a feel for what the enemy is doing and planning. Jordan occasionally throws in a chapter for one of the Forsaken, but it seems like this is a bit underdeveloped to really understand what the enemy is doing. It also seems strange that we haven't seen much of the Trollocks and Myrdraals since book five.After investing time to read nine books in the series, I will press on. I'm really looking forward to the last three as I've heard Sanderson did a great job concluding this long series.

I rarely review textbooks, but this one deserves a huge shout-out. We're using this for a graduate-level special education course, and although I'm nearly finished with the program and have been working as an EC teacher for a couple of years, there's still loads of information in this textbook that I've never seen represented before. For example, none of my textbooks has ever shown a chart of which IQ ranges correspond to mild, moderate, severe, and profound intellectual disability. The organization of topics is thoughtful, and it's nice to have entire chapters devoted to learning disabilities, emotional/behavioral disorders, hearing loss, blindness, and gifted/talented students; these topics often get shortchanged (or are completely overlooked) in textbooks for teacher-preparation programs focusing on severe/profound disabilities. Although I've rented the e-textbook for the semester, I'll be paying the difference to purchase it once the rental period has expired.

the only reason I bought this book was for class. If you're reading it for your own benefit, you could probably find a better book. Very dry. A lot of (basically) just listing facts. I wish I knew of a better book. Furthermore, it does not leave you feeling like you actually learned anything and does not inspire you to look into things on your own. If you're a teacher or prof- I suggest finding a new book. Or at least an updated one.(Yes, I understand it's a textbook and they're not usually all that interesting, but my Human Learning textbook was almost hard to put down.)

To "Go New" or not: That is the question.I wouldn't, but I already have my M.Ed. If you're just starting your career as a teacher, or just starting to learn about becoming a teacher--especially of exceptional children--you'll probably get a lot of use out of this text. It's an excellent reference.Indeed, this books has a ton of information in tiny print on glossy pages. It breaks up information to insert helpful teaching aides or stories about teachers doing the right things--which, on their surface are very helpful. I have no complaints about the content. But the format! The organization! Ugh.THINGS TO NOTE:When I'm reading about a technical topic, I don't want the information interrupted mid-paragraph or mid-section for a two-page spread about a teacher who is using a technique I read about three or four pages ago (or will read about in another page or two, under a separate subheading). Finish the section and then give me examples, or give me examples and then explain them in the section. Don't break up an unrelated section just to put in your colorful insert (and they are very colorful) before the chapter ends.More, I don't want to see charts several pages away from the information they're trying to explain. I don't want two or three pages of charts in the middle of one section of text. I hate flipping back and forth, and flipping back and forth feels like all I do with this book.OVERALL:Again, the content is wonderful. I found the text balanced, fair, insightful, helpful, and up-to-date. But I couldn't get past the formatting. You go from walls of text where bold, italics, and sub-sized fonts run rampant to big, colorful splashes filled with more content, to two-page inserts complete with pictures, to charts with small font, back to tons of text--and few of the beautiful, colorful features make a lot of sense where they are placed. The reading experience is visually overwhelming, and the organization within the chapters is awful.That said, the overall organization of the book is very nice--it builds well--and the chapters are informative. I would have preferred more information and techniques for "gifted and talented" children (they do get one chapter), but that isn't really the focus of this book. As a broad overview, it does its job--and it's obvious why this is a common choice for education classes. Just be prepared to read with your sunglasses on, and have your fingers poised for constant flipping.

Excellent textbook on the many issues about exceptional children, a very thorough in depth chapter on each of the the special education eligibilities.

Required book for my class however I am extremely disappointed that right after purchasing the ebook I wasn't able to open the book in my kindle app. I'm not even allowed to access the book on my tablet because it says "the title is not available on kindle for windows 8". Be careful when ordering this ebook version or any other ebook. Amazon should be more specific about what devices are accepted with ebooks. Make sure your device supports it first. Wasted my money!!!!

A dear friend is an elementary school teacher and I’m always on the lookout for fun and educational books that she can share with her students. The FlyingKids’ Travel Guide Series has been the best gift(s) ever. Her students love them and, better yet, they learn and enjoy doing so. The series covers everything from geography to culture; history to lifestyles of the various countries. The new book in the series, FlyingKids’ Guide to China even taught me something. Did you know that the Chinese invented toilet paper? I can’t recommend the series enough – for travelers, educators, students and kids of all ages.

China is a big subject ... but this book provides a great overview in a fun way. Helps kids understand the vastness of the country and its very long history, and gives tips and interesting facts about major cities and important landmarks, Kids learn about famous Chinese people from history and today and get a fun look at Chinese life and customs, including food, holidays, sports, and even a little language. Games and quizzes keep kids from getting bored. A great addition to a family vacation in this fascinating country (as well as a great way to learn about China from home).

About the Author

Mitchell Walker earned his Bachelor of Business Administration from Southern Methodist University and embarked on an entrepreneurial career. He has owned five businesses: an insurance agency, multiple restaurants, an automotive dealership, a personnel recruitment firm and a farm. His financial experience spans 25 years and includes working with the public to being the CFO of a Berkshire Hathaway company and a community college. He has served his local community as a City Councilman and County Commissioner. For many years, Mitchell’s passion has been helping people improve their personal financial situations. Mitchell makes the PouchPlan so easy to follow, but it needs to fall under a couple of new categories when google searching... categories like leadership, inspirational and life changing as well as financial and/or budgeting. This book is entertaining and a fast read! I've known my family needed a budget for awhile, but didn't know where to begin and was overwhelmed. The Pouchplan Budget takes all the guess work and fear out of budgeting. You literally follow a few easy steps that Mitchell clearly lines out, fill in some blanks in a spread sheet and you're done! I love how this one system works for all budgets and scenarios. It's such a relief to have control of our finances! Now "every dollar has a duty!"Furthermore, I had a question about our spreadsheet and emailed Mitchell. He responded very quickly and gave me the advise I needed to make sure we are successful. Mitchell truly cares about those that are pursing financial stability and freedom through the Pouchplan and is so kind and willing to offer his help!

In the PouchPlan author Mitchell Walker walks you through the advantages (probably necessity would be a better description) of putting a personal budget in place. I love the quote in the book that says “If you do not have a plan for your money, rest assured plenty of others do. And their plans will beat your no plan every time”. I also like that the book does not just try to convince the reader of a plans value, it gives you a plan to make a plan.A very interesting part of the book is the chapter on using habits and not depending on willpower to be the driver of your actions. This is a very interesting concept and one the author builds a very strong case for. This could have massive implications in a person’s life and not only in the financial area. This was a gem I did not expect to find in a book on budgeting.On the actual budgeting part, you come away with a plan based on the combination of several proven tactics I have seen recommended by other financial experts. I do not think I have seen anyone else put them all together in one system. He has you automate the payment of all your regular expenses, pay cash( prefunded by category in your “Pouch”) for the irregular ones, gives you budget instructions by paycheck, and handles the timing of expenses against the timing of your money coming in. He has his own spreadsheet template that is downloaded from their website for free. If you want to use his spreadsheet, he does spend an entire chapter walking you line by line through the template.It is an enjoyable read for a financial book. I think he hits a good balance of sharing his personal experiences along with those of other people who have used his system. It is also not quite as long as the 182 pages listed in the description. I think there are around 40 pages or so that are devoted to specific situations that the author advises you to skip if they are not relevant to your particular situation.All in all a solid book that offers a real opportunity to get control of your spending and financial life.

Mitchell Walker has done the research and the labor to put together a step by step budget that makes sense to those of us who don't understand budgets. He doesn't just explain the importance of a budget, but shows you how to create a simple, personalized budget that caters to your needs.It does take a couple hours to set up the spreadsheet, but if I could lose 5 pounds in a couple hours I would do that to.

It is a great system because it really does give you an up to date budget without any math or accounting required to keep it that way......I can see how this could work for lots of people who have no idea how to budget. Almost every page contains a full page, beautiful color reproduction. Of course, Matisse is the most heavily representedof the group, but other fauves aren't given short shrift. Derain, Marquet, Dufy and others are given sufficient coverage.The author provides a brief and readable history of the movement. All in all, it's an excellent introduction to fauvism.

The pictures were clear & with good color, and this is what I wanted. Some art books have pictures in black & white, why even bother.

This book has beautiful pictures of many painters. It is always a risk to buy such a book almost blind, but I was very happy with it

I bought this book hoping there were a good amount of paintings from Manguin (amazing painter), and Marquet, but most of the book is dedicated to Matisse paintings that everyone's seen before. There's also nothing from Braque, who was a quintessential fauve. The review below me appears to be fake, and is possibly from the author or one of their cohorts, which sadly isn't uncommon on Amazon and other sites. Trust me when I say this book contributes VERY little and is comparable to dipping your little pinkie toe into a big vibrant pool of water.

This book is great as an introduction to Fauvism. It contains many artists from the movement (both well known and less so) and the pictures look great on the page. I especially loved the paintings by Raoul Dufy, who I'd not encountered until I bought this. The text is also helpful to beginners.Maybe not for Fauvism experts, but I thought it served as a beautiful introduction to a collection of great artists.

This book is written by an author who has lived and worked in Russia and whose sources derive from Russian collections only. Before the Revolution there were wealthy collectors who bought works by the Fauves and which eventually became a part of the State Collections. Therefore this book gives a perspective on the subject that has not been commonly seen in the West, thus making it well worth the purchase.

I love this series but this is one of the weaker ones. The storytelling and artwork wasn't as strong after the first chapter (the result of Noelle Stevenson's absence?), and I didn't care very much about what was going on when the merpeople. This series works best when the stories are centered on the core group of girls, their friendships, their conflicts. The first chapter of this volume was very cool, though, as it served as kind of an origin story. I hope Volume 6 gets back to what I love so much about this series, but I am worried quality will suffer as Noelle Stevenson becomes less involved.

A very great series that my daughter looks forward to with each book.

Jonathan Harr wrote a very intriguing book about the discovery of a long-lost Caravaggio, The Taking of Christ. If you are an art lover who also loves Italian art, this book will entertain you. I qualify. I was fascinated to learn more about Caravaggio's rather rakish life as well as the way lost art is discovered.Harr put the reader in the role of detective. We explored the documents along with his two young art historians, Francesca and Laura. I felt as if I was there plowing through the old letters and ledgers. I sneezed from the dust and shivered from the cold. That's how intimate the writing was.We also learned how hard it is to restore a piece of work painted in the early 17th Century. Four hundred years of dirt, grime, and much more had to be carefully removed. The professional hands of Benedetti delicately guided us through this process. Even after he, a compulsively careful restorer, made a near-fatal error, the painting survived.But, was it really the lost Taking of Christ or simply a well-done copy? That's the question that both the reader and those who discovered it pondered. Many of Caravaggio's disciples copied his work. They did it on commission and their skill level was almost as good as the Master's. So, how to determine if this one was a genuine Caravaggio?Read the book to find out.

I would rate this book between a 4 and a 5. Although I am most certainly not an art history student, the author creates a story line which keeps the reader going, wondering what the final plot will be. There are sections of the book which I think could have been improved by better organization, but overall I enjoyed the book from beginning to end.

I first learned of Caravaggio on a walking trip in the Veneto. I later started a Caravaggio biography but didn't get through it. Caravaggio is known not only for his painting but for his tempestuous personality. This book weaves those threads together very well. I am left with an engaged appreciation, and a desire to learn more.

For it being a used book it was in great shape, had a couple of bent corners of the book, but other then that it looks new. This is a good interesting story. I actually know the priest (Father Barber) who was instrumental in finding this painting and mentioned several times throughout this book. I had previously read this book a few years ago, but it was a borrowed book and I wanted my own hard bound copy as I wanted Father Barber to sign it; but, hard bound is not being printed any longer so I decided to purchase this through Amazon. I'm glad I did. My volunteer helper, also knows Fr. Barber and wanted a book too so I ordered another one for her. Her book was a little more used looking but still in good shape; however, she received a First Edition book. She was pleased with her book also.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book.While reading it, I did not know if was fact or fiction. It was a real thrill to discover at the end, the book is actually non-fiction and based on extensive research and interviews. The author even went to the trouble of learning to speak Italian to better converse with most of the characters appearing in this book. It is written so well with such vivid descriptions of people and places, the reader is brought right into the scene.Personally, I had a hard time putting it down.

A must-read for Caravaggio fans! I felt like I was walking around Rome while I was reading it. The only glitch in the true story comes when there's a brief detour into the life of Caravaggio himself. Harr's narrative seemed at odds with what I'd already learned from recent scholars about the artist and his wild, and often violent, life. The quest to trace the history of the painting is a great real life mystery.

It is hard for me to understand why admirers became addicted to Caravaggio or any artist. Evidently this was an era of intense devotion to discovering new art and to spend years searching for its pedigree. It was an interesting book however .

As an art history student, and still fond of the history of anything, I found this book engaging and very informative. Yes, it’s a novel, but the underlying story would hold up under any circumstances. The plot line is semi- weak, but I was there for the story of a painting and how such a discovery is authenticated. Very convincing book.
