I bought this book for my 5th grader so she'd have a quick resource to go to when doing math homework. He school math book sometimes does not have good viauals to go along with the work. This book has alot of wonderful drawings/illustrations to go along with the text. It could use some more illustrations and some "basic" math definitions are not covered...that is why I only gave the book a 4 out of 5 stars. Really, I'd give it a 4.5 if I could. The book is so pretty and keeps my daughter interested in reading it I am sure because of the colors and the texture of the pages.This is a small-ish book...about 1/6th the size of the Osburne science book. It is easy to browse and again, is just a lovely looking book. I think it is great for elementary and middle school aged kids and can be a great review/resource book for high school aged kids.

This is a great math resource with examples and web links. As a retired math teacher, I find it, like all Usborne reference books, very clear and user friendly.

This book beautifully illustrates the core mathematical concepts. What an absolute treasure - it helped me to bootstrap my children's minds , to give them a head-start in life and ingrain within them an appreciation of the beautiful nature of mathematical reality.

Although this is not what I would define as a math dictionary, it is an excellent book. It has wonderfully short and clear explanations of most of the precalculus topics, plus good examples. I haven't been able to find another book that is so complete and concise. I am using it to review for the Praxis II Mathematics exam and I am very happy I bought it. However, if you need a true college/high school math dictionary try the "HarperCollins Dictionary of Mathematics" or use Wikipedia.

I was just glancing through this book today and found an error that stuck out. Watch out on page 58; "volume of a triangular prism" (1/2 x 3x2)x5 answer should be 15cm3, not 5cm3.I have not double checked the whole book yet, just letting you know to watch out, there might be more typos.Love the book otherwise, beautiful colors and nice graphics. GJ.

I purchased this book while studying to be a math teacher. To my surprise I accidentally purchased 2. I gave one to a fellow classmate who in turn shared the book with others in another class. By the end of the semester every student and the teacher had purchased one. The illustrations are outstanding and the definitions are well written. I highly recommend this book.

An incredibly complex subject made entertaining and enjoyable . . . makes me think even I can understand physics, biology and interplanetary science! My thanks to Mr Miller for taking three years of his busy life to give it to us.I'm recommending this book to anyone on this planet and beyond. Please read it, tell your friends about it, then review it somewhere public, because we all want a little feedback, and from somewhere closer than 12 light years away.To begin with, anyway. Maybe in the next few years, who knows?

I am a huge space nerd, and this is my absolute favorite all-in-one book about life in the universe. Ben Miller's the Aliens Are Coming is incredibly well researched, engaging, funny, and an all around wonderful book. It is perfect for those (like me) who love space and science, but don't have a technical mind. Miller breaks down complex topics down better than any one else I've ever read, including Neil DeGrasse Tyson. This is a wonderful book!
