Almost every page contains a full page, beautiful color reproduction. Of course, Matisse is the most heavily representedof the group, but other fauves aren't given short shrift. Derain, Marquet, Dufy and others are given sufficient coverage.The author provides a brief and readable history of the movement. All in all, it's an excellent introduction to fauvism.
The pictures were clear & with good color, and this is what I wanted. Some art books have pictures in black & white, why even bother.

This book has beautiful pictures of many painters. It is always a risk to buy such a book almost blind, but I was very happy with it
I bought this book hoping there were a good amount of paintings from Manguin (amazing painter), and Marquet, but most of the book is dedicated to Matisse paintings that everyone's seen before. There's also nothing from Braque, who was a quintessential fauve. The review below me appears to be fake, and is possibly from the author or one of their cohorts, which sadly isn't uncommon on Amazon and other sites. Trust me when I say this book contributes VERY little and is comparable to dipping your little pinkie toe into a big vibrant pool of water.
This book is great as an introduction to Fauvism. It contains many artists from the movement (both well known and less so) and the pictures look great on the page. I especially loved the paintings by Raoul Dufy, who I'd not encountered until I bought this. The text is also helpful to beginners.Maybe not for Fauvism experts, but I thought it served as a beautiful introduction to a collection of great artists.
This book is written by an author who has lived and worked in Russia and whose sources derive from Russian collections only. Before the Revolution there were wealthy collectors who bought works by the Fauves and which eventually became a part of the State Collections. Therefore this book gives a perspective on the subject that has not been commonly seen in the West, thus making it well worth the purchase.
