About the Author
Rainer Metzger studied art history, history and German studies in Munich and Augsburg. He received his doctorate in 1994, and has worked as a fine arts journalist for the Viennese newspaper Der Standard. He has written numerous books on art, including volumes on Van Gogh and Chagall.

The small sized hardback is a very nice book, and is almost EXACTLY the same as the larger hardback version Van Gogh: Complete Works by Rainer Metzger and Ingo F. Walther . The photos, words, and paper quality are the same. Don't know about the paperback version.With the smaller version, the pictures are obviously smaller and the book is much lighter in weight. The larger version has larger pictures and has similar size and weight of a textbook or dictionary. Both are very nice. The smaller book is almost half the price and is better for traveling, backpacks, carrying... so get which size best fits your needs.
The book was very good quality. The pages were made of a very fine material, with in-depth descriptions and full color images of each painting. I highly reccomend this to any art or Vincent lover!
My favorite painter is presented in this book as a mysterious man he used to be. You will get the best explanations of his work, every painting description and the story about its creation. Love Van Gogh and i was very pleased with this book.
I gave this book as a gift and I believe the per I gave it to, will most certain;y enjoy it. I had the occasion to have some time to really get a whole new insight to Van Gogh and I found it a wonderful history of such a talented artist...I liked it so much I may get a copy for myself.....It is the kind of book to look at and marvel at all of his paintings.....

My 5 year old grandson loves his Van Gogh book and tries to imitate his famous paintings.
Thought the book would be in a wider format. Instead it's a very thick and tall book. It's printed nicely, but wish it was easier to read due to it's format.
The book was a little disappointing. I didn’t realize it was going to be so small. It kind of takes away from it. The content is great though.
